Parks is pleased to assist you in every aspect of your move. While moving your belongings is our primary job, we would also like to provide you with some very useful information that will help you plan out all the "little things" that are easy to forget or not thought about until it's too late or inconvenient for your household. The following suggestions have been prepared to assist you with specific aspects of your move.

Be Organized
Items that are to remain in the house should be labeled so there is no chance of loading them by mistake. For anything that you plan to take with you, have the item already packed and loaded in the car. Be sure plane tickets, papers for house closing, etc. are in your possession.

Dressers
Leave clothing in the drawers. If there are breakable items in the drawers, place them on top of the dresser so they can be packed properly. Keys, screws and bolts should be placed in a baggy and taped inside of a drawer. Lock file cabinets, and take the keys with you.

Clothing on Hangers
Leave clothing on hangers in the closet. (If only a few things are to be packed from the closet, please separate them from the others or place them outside of the closet.) These will be placed into "hang-up" wardrobes.

Pictures/Mirrors
For pictures and mirrors hanging on the wall by wire/nail, leave them hanging and they will be packed. You will need to take down anything attached to the wall by a screw, bolt, or nail driven into the wall. This includes shelving units, plant hangers, drapes, curtains and their rods, ceiling fans, etc.

Items in Kitchen Cabinets
Remove perishables and liquids before packers/movers arrive. Leave everything in the cabinets and the packers will pack items.

Perishable Items
We cannot take these on the van.

Valuables
Jewelry, cash, coin collections, furs, personal papers, deeds, wills and anything else of high value must be taken by you, or listed on our “high value items” forms and clearly noted for the packers and driver.

Appliances
We ask that you unplug your refrigerator and freezer at least 24 hours before loading day. Leave the doors open; then take a hair dryer and blow-dry the inside of the unit. When this is completed, pour one cup of fresh, unused coffee grounds into some type of nylon stocking, tie a knot in the sock and place one in the freezer, one in the refrigerator compartment. For upright or chest freezers, toss two socks in the unit, and then close the door. This will absorb the unwanted odors.

Most refrigerators, washers, dryers, and other electrical or mechanical appliances require special servicing to assure a safe move. Any moving parts — such as motors, washer drums, icemakers, and the pick up arm on a record player should be secured for shipment. Gas appliances need to be serviced and disconnected by your local gas utility.

It's your responsibility to take care of these preparations yourself, to hire an appropriate technician, or request that Parks make the arrangements for you at an additional charge.

The customer must transport any ammunition.

The customer must provide the packer and drivers with a list of serial numbers for all guns to be transported. The packer will write the serial numbers on the cartons.

Cars/Mowers/Grills
If a car is being moved, the gas tank should be one-quarter full or less.

Lawn mowers and other gasoline engines must be emptied of oil and gas. In addition, the customer should wash out gas cans that are being transported to avoid fumes.

Barbecue grills that use coals should be cleaned out by the customer the day before the packer arrives.

Computers
Computers need to be made ready for transport, including information back-up, etc. by the customer.
